BOKS prepares children for a day of learning and is an important step in helping children appreciate the benefits of exercise and healthy choices that will last a lifetime. BOKS was inspired by the book “Spark” by Dr. John Ratey of Harvard Medical School. Several studies establish that moderate to vigorous physical activity stimulates brain function and creates the physiological conditions for students to be ready to learn. BOKS directly addresses these points by getting kids moving in the morning to help boost their academic and physical performance in addition to their overall confidence and well-being. Classes are filled with team-oriented games and provide plenty of opportunity for play since the program focuses on fun!
We will be offering two BOKS sessions this school year. A Fall session and a Spring session. The classes run twice a week for grades K-2 and three times a week for grades 3-6 for 12 weeks. You can access the current schedule on the schedule/registration tab. Doors will be open at 7:15 AM for students to come in and have free time in the gym. At 7:30 AM we promptly begin our class!
A typical class runs for about 45 minutes. This includes attendance, group meeting, warm-up game, running activity, skill of the week (planks, push-ups, sit-ups, squats, lunges, etc…), a BOKS bit (dialogue about proper nutrition and healthy choices), end of class game, cool down/stretching, and the BOKS Cheer .
After class, roughly 8:15 AM, students will have breakfast. Students may bring their own breakfast or buy breakfast from the breakfast program offered at our school. At 8:30 students will be dismissed to their classes and start their day!
